European Economic Area
Where GDPR applies, genetic and health data are special categories. A personal feature would require an Article 6 basis, an Article 9 condition, transparency, minimisation, privacy by design and, for high-risk processing, a DPIA.
United Kingdom
Where UK GDPR applies, genetic data are special-category data. High-risk processing needs documented grounds, applicable Data Protection Act 2018 safeguards and prior risk assessment.
United States
An educational site is not automatically subject to HIPAA unless the operator is a covered entity or business associate. FTC and state-law duties may apply. GINA has limited scope and does not provide equivalent protection across all insurance products.
Children’s data
A single checkbox cannot authorise personal genetic features for minors. Representative authority, child-friendly explanation, assent where applicable, the right not to know and demonstrated benefit to the child require separate design.
Current boundary
The site accepts no genome files, reports, free-text diagnosis or family histories and creates no accounts, personal risk scores, medication recommendations, reproductive recommendations, child profiles or advertising audiences. A variant designation, structured categories from all five clinical navigators and fixed selections in the GDC research reference are matched only in browser memory against limited local editorial sets and are not sent to the controller or an external API. GDC output is aggregate research context only, not prognosis or treatment selection. The functions are intended for source or pathway retrieval and verification, not diagnosis, therapeutic or reproductive decisions; personalised test, surveillance, medicine, regimen, prenatal-procedure or embryo selection would require separate clinical validation, a quality system, ethical review and regulatory qualification.
